The ALC-SCIENTIFIC Laminar Air Flow Cabinet is a clean-air workstation designed to protect non-hazardous products, samples and processes from airborne particulate contamination. Room air is drawn through a pre-filter and passed through a high-efficiency HEPA filter before entering the working chamber as uniform horizontal or vertical unidirectional airflow. The cabinet is suitable for clean assembly, media preparation, non-hazardous aseptic procedures, PCR reagent preparation, electronics work and other contamination-sensitive applications. Depending on the selected configuration, it may include airflow monitoring, digital controls, stainless-steel construction, UV lighting, electrical sockets and service ports. 8Working Principle

A Laminar Air Flow Cabinet creates a particle-controlled working environment by passing room air through filtration stages and supplying the cleaned air uniformly across the work surface. Room air is drawn into the cabinet by an internal blower. A pre-filter removes larger dust particles and helps reduce loading on the main HEPA filter. The air then passes through the HEPA filter and enters the work chamber as unidirectional airflow. This clean-air stream helps remove particles introduced by the surrounding room, equipment or operator.

1. Air IntakeRoom air is drawn into the cabinet and passes through a pre-filter.
2. HEPA FiltrationAir passes through the HEPA filter to remove fine airborne particles.
3. Clean AirflowFiltered air is supplied uniformly across the work area for product protection.

Horizontal Airflow

In a horizontal clean bench, the HEPA filter is normally installed behind the work chamber. Filtered air travels from the rear of the cabinet toward the front opening and operator.

Vertical Airflow

In a vertical clean bench, the HEPA filter is normally positioned above the work chamber. Filtered air moves downward over the work surface and exits through the front opening or grille arrangement.

A Laminar Air Flow Cabinet is intended to protect the product or process from airborne particulate contamination. It does not provide personnel protection, environmental protection, aerosol containment, chemical-fume containment or biological containment.

Do Not Use For

Potentially infectious microorganisms, clinical specimens that may contain pathogens, hazardous drugs, toxic powders, sensitizing materials, volatile chemicals, radioactive materials or hazardous aerosol-generating work.

Select Instead

Use a Class II Biosafety Cabinet or another appropriate containment device when operator and environmental protection are required.
